Notice writing for Class 6, 7 and 8

A notice should save its reader a question. If someone still needs to ask when to arrive, where to go or how to join, the draft probably needs one more useful detail, not a longer introduction.

A notice is a short announcement for a group. A useful classroom format includes the school or organisation name, NOTICE, date of issue, subject heading, body, and issuer name with designation. State who needs the information, what is happening, when, where and what action to take. Use a box when the task requires one.

These 15 solved notices and 45 topics are original EZT practice. All schools, people, dates, events and arrangements are fictional. Our examples use a 40-50-body-word practice target, counting only the body by spaces. This is not a national Class 6-8 word limit or marking scheme. Follow your teacher's question, format and counting instructions.

Notice-writing format: what goes where?

Use the layout your teacher asks for. This practice template keeps the issuing organisation and subject easy to spot, with the issue date separate from the event date.

[SCHOOL / ORGANISATION NAME]

NOTICE

[Date of issue]

[Short subject heading]

[Who is this for? What is happening? Give the event date, time and place. Add any required materials, limits, contact person and action deadline.]

[Signature, as instructed]
[Issuer name]
[Designation / role]

  1. Name the issuer. A school or club name tells readers where the announcement comes from.
  2. Separate NOTICE from the subject. NOTICE names the kind of writing; the short heading names this announcement.
  3. Date the notice. The issue date is not automatically the event date or registration deadline.
  4. Give the useful facts. Include the intended readers, purpose, date, time, place and required action. Add a limit only when it is relevant.
  5. Finish with the responsible person. Use the issuer name and role supplied in the task. The names below stand in for a handwritten signature; they are not real approvals.

A quick check before you finish

  • Can the intended readers tell that the notice applies to them?
  • Are the issue date, event date and action deadline consistent?
  • Is the time precise, including a.m. or p.m. where needed?
  • Is the venue specific enough to find, and is the contact route clear?
  • Have you kept the prompt's limits without inventing fees, prizes or permissions?
  • Have you followed the required layout, signature instructions and word limit?

Mistakes that make readers ask again

Vague timing: "Soon" and "after school" may be too loose. Use the date and time supplied in the task.

A long ceremonial opening: "It gives us immense pleasure to inform everyone" uses space without helping the reader. Start with the event or instruction.

Unclear changes: If a room or date changes, say what changes and what stays the same. Do not make readers compare two old notices.

Invented authority: A model answer is imaginary, but a real notice cannot promise a place, permission or a refund that the organiser has not approved.

Forced passive sentences: Formal does not mean difficult. Keep the sentence grammatical and direct; follow any specific classroom instruction about voice.

Is your draft missing a useful detail?

Bring the task and your attempt. A tutor can help you choose the required facts, shorten the opening and make the action clear.

Notice-writing questions students ask

What is the notice-writing format for Class 6, 7 and 8?
A useful classroom format has the school or organisation name, NOTICE, date of issue, a short subject heading, a concise body and the issuer name with designation. Cover who, what, when, where and what action to take. Box it if the task asks, and follow the format your teacher gives.
Is there one CBSE word limit or marking scheme for these three classes?
This page does not claim a national Class 6-8 word limit or marking scheme. The solved notices use our 40-50-body-word practice target. Your teacher may count words differently or set another limit. Read the question and use its instructions rather than importing a senior-secondary exam rule.
Should every notice use passive voice?
Use formal, clear sentences. Passive wording can help when the event matters more than the organiser, but forcing every sentence into passive voice can make instructions harder to read. Use the grammatical form that communicates the required information clearly and matches your classroom instructions.
Can I invent missing details in a notice-writing question?
Use the details supplied first. In an explicitly imaginary task, add plausible details only when the instructions allow them and they do not contradict the prompt. In a real notice, check missing dates, places, limits and contact details with the organiser; never invent them.
Do the examples describe real school events?
No. All school names, people, dates, events and arrangements on this page are fictional EZT practice. The notices are writing examples, not real announcements or official board answers.
