Quick answer for medical aspirants searching right now: NEET UG 2027 will not look like the exam your seniors took. It is moving from pen-and-paper OMR sheets to a computer-based test (CBT), spread across five to six days at around 1,000 centres in 500 cities, as reported by the Indian Express (7 July 2026). The exact exam date has not been announced yet (as of 21 October 2026) - the detailed notification with dates and shift timings is expected after the ongoing NTA revamp. Here is what is confirmed, what is not, and how your preparation should change starting this month.

What is confirmed about NEET UG 2027

  • Computer-based format. NEET UG 2027 will be conducted as a CBT instead of the traditional pen-and-paper exam. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the shift in May 2026 following the Radhakrishnan committee's recommendations, and the Times of India (4 September 2026) reported that NTA has begun identifying government institutions - with AICTE's help - that can serve as computer-based exam centres.
  • Multiple sessions over five to six days. Per the Indian Express, the exam will run across five to six days at roughly 1,000 centres in 500 cities, accommodating about 5 lakh candidates per day. Most centres will be government institutions such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas.
  • Why the change. The shift follows the 2026 paper leak, after which the May exam was cancelled and a retest held in June for around 22 lakh candidates. The CBT transition is part of a wider overhaul of exam security and of NTA itself.

What is not confirmed yet (as of 21 October 2026)

  • The exam date. NTA's published calendar runs through March 2027 and does not include NEET UG 2027. The exam has historically been held in early May, but treat any specific date circulating online as unconfirmed until it appears on neet.nta.nic.in.
  • Shift timings and test cities. The Indian Express reports these will come with the detailed notification after the NTA revamp is complete.
  • Syllabus changes. No syllabus revision has been announced for 2027. Until NMC or NTA publishes one, the current syllabus stands.

How the CBT shift should change your preparation

The academic core does not change - Physics, Chemistry, and Biology from NCERT remain the entire game. What changes is the medium, and mediums cost marks when they are unfamiliar:

  1. Add computer-based mocks now, not in April. Reading 180 questions on a screen, flagging and revisiting them, and managing three hours without a paper booklet is a skill of its own. Take at least one full CBT mock every two weeks from now, weekly from January.
  2. Relearn review habits. On OMR, students scan and bubble strategically. On screen, you will use flag-and-review. Practise the digital equivalent deliberately in every mock.
  3. Keep practising from NCERT, not summaries. Most NEET toppers will tell you the paper is won in the NCERT lines others skip. Our guide on revising effectively before exams covers the recall techniques that make NCERT stick.
  4. Watch only one source for updates. Check neet.nta.nic.in weekly. Forwarded "confirmed dates" on Telegram have burned aspirants every single year; our JEE Main 2027 registration guide makes the same point for the January NTA exam.

Where a tutor fits into NEET preparation

With roughly 22 lakh candidates chasing limited seats, NEET rewards precision - and precision comes from error analysis, which is hard to do alone. A good NEET tutor reviews your mock errors with you, separates concept gaps from silly mistakes, and adjusts the plan weekly. Physics numericals and physical chemistry are where most aspirants plateau; our post on finding a physics tutor covers what to look for. At EZ Tuitions, we match NEET aspirants with tutors who teach to the exam - NCERT line-by-line coverage, timed practice, and mock-review sessions - online or at home.
