What the paper looks like this year

We checked the official Class 10 Maths model paper (subject code 928) on the board's website to give you a concrete picture. It is a 3-hour-15-minute paper of 70 marks, split into two sections: Section A has 20 multiple-choice questions of 20 marks, answered on an OMR sheet, and Section B has descriptive questions for the remaining 50 marks. The first 15 minutes are meant for reading the paper.

Two things follow from this. First, OMR practice matters - bubbling answers correctly is a skill, and students lose marks to avoidable OMR mistakes every year. Second, 70 marks of written paper means the remaining 30 marks come from internal assessment, so your school's internal tests and projects count directly toward your final score. A note for Class 12 students

Intermediate model papers follow the same idea, but the stakes split differently: your Class 12 percentage feeds directly into college admissions, and subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Biology each have their own paper structure with a mix of objective and long-answer questions. Download every subject's paper at the start of your revision, not the week before the exam - knowing the question format early changes how you take notes all year. If a particular subject's format surprises you (say, the weight of numericals in Physics), that is the signal to get help on it now, while there are still months to fix it.

How to use model papers in the months before boards

A model paper is only useful if you solve it the right way:

• Start with one paper as a diagnostic. Sit for the full 3 hours 15 minutes, no pauses, no books. Mark it honestly. The weak chapters it reveals become your revision list.
• Practise in the exam's time slot. UP Board 2027 papers run in a morning shift (8:30-11:45 AM) and an evening shift (2:00-5:15 PM). Solve at least a few papers in the same slot as your actual exam so your body clock adjusts.
• Check answers against the marking scheme, not just the final answer. Board marking awards step marks - write solutions the way the scheme rewards, not just the shortest path.
